Blog 3.0: April 18th- April 26th       ___

We have been very lucky to meet two new friends join our class this week, Alice and Alyyn! They are both making new friends and fitting in quickly to our nursery family.

We started off the week with some fun outside using our steering wheels from last unit to drive around the playground. Roads were drawn in chalk with intersections, an underpass and lots of turns.

We began our new unit this week, “Plants and Animals”. We are beginning with a focus on the jungle and jungle animals.  We have been reading lots of story books about animals and playing with our small world animal toys during free play.

Each student made their own paper gecko for our jungle display in the Early Years hallway. Students used their fine motor skills to paint their gecko and then to glue colorful bits of paper and eyes to it.

Students still love to take our class boat for a spin, now taking turns to push each other around the classroom finding sea animals along the way.

We all had a fun day when we experimented with blue foam during sensory play.  Exposing children to sensory play helps them develop and refine the use of their senses.   By giving children the opportunity to investigate materials with no preconceived knowledge, you’re helping them develop  their cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative skills.
